Downtown Charlottesville at Your Door

If you are new to Charlottesville or downtown, welcome!

Whether you work or live at the Gleason, you are only steps from everything the town has to offer.

Just to the West of the Gleason is the health club.

Across the street you will find a bakery, a Pilates studio, and several restaurants.

Two blocks South you will find the Ix Art Park, several restaurants, a coffee house, a cupcake store, and a gym.

Headed East, you will come to a brewery, and if you cross over Avon and continue East a few more blocks, you come to Belmont with all sorts of restaurants.

Just one block North of the Gleason you will find a brewery, and the Farmer's Market every Saturday morning, except in the winter months.

One block farther North is the entrance to the Pedestrian Mall. Before you even arrive on the mall you will find: a tailor, a spa, a nail salon, several shops, an art gallery, a theater for performing arts, and a hair salon.

Once you are on the Mall you will find: hair salons, 2 movie theaters, CVS, a theater, several art galleries, jewelers, eye glass stores, music venues, bookstores, shops, spas, banks, a shoe store, a dry cleaner, clothing stores, a children's museum,  the Paramount theater, a furniture store, the post office, City Hall, the police department, the Visitor Center, the CAT station, an ice rink, a hotel, and many restaurants, bars, and coffee houses. During the summer months First Fridays is held at the East end of the Mall. Yoga and Pilates studios are across the street from the Gleason, down the street, and on the mall. The free trolley to UVA stops 3 blocks from the Gleason, as do the city buses.

Each year there is a film festival, a photography festival, a book festival, a festival of innovation, and a TedX event in Charlottesville. All take place on the downtown mall.

One block beyond the mall you will find the library, a wine store, and Market Street Market for most of your basic shopping needs.

Several blocks farther North you will come to Court Square, where the courts are.

West of the Mall you will find Staples, and West Main with many restaurants and shops, and Preston Avenue where you can find a hardware store, a bagel store, a brewery, restaurants, and a health food store.

This list doesn't mention all the restaurants and coffee houses that you will find between here and any place you are going. It merely tries to give you an idea that the Gleason is really at the center of everything in Charlottesville.

Cville Weekly and The Daily Progress are our local papers. There are many local websites that announce music and art events, local and regional festivals, and children's events that are happening each week.

When the post office is closed you can purchase stamps at Market Street Market. You can mail packages at Staples which is open 7 days a week.

Business names and links have not been included so that they need not be updated as this information changes.
